Netflix reinvented video rental for the Internet era.

Netflix reinvented mail order movies for the streaming era.

How should it reinvent again for the intelligence era?

If Netflix were built from scratch today for an AI-abundant world, what kind of company would it become?

My hypothesis:

Netflix should evolve from a streaming platform into an AI-native entertainment network built around persistent entertainment worlds.

Not Netflix + AI. A fundamentally different model.

Here is how I applied the 5 Reinventible! skill-steps:

Skill 1: Customer Jobs-to-be-Done

People are not fundamentally hiring Netflix to watch video. They want to be entertained, immersed and connected to stories, characters and worlds they care about - whenever and however they choose.

Slide 2 of 7Customer Jobs-to-be-Done: from watching content to living worlds.

Skill 2: First Principles Analysis

Why must entertainment be packaged as fixed movies and series? Why should audiences remain passive? Why should video dominate? Why should monetisation rely mainly on subscriptions and advertising?

These are assumptions inherited from an earlier digital media era.

Slide 3 of 7First Principles Analysis: from old assumptions to new possibilities.

Skill 3: Transdisciplinary Innovation

Borrow from gaming, YouTube, Roblox, Marvel, TikTok and app stores.

Combine persistent worlds, creator ecosystems, co-creation, interconnected universes, cultural sensing and platform economics.

A new possibility emerges: entertainment worlds that expand across films, series, games, live experiences, creators, commerce, fandom and interactive experiences.

Skill 4: Systems Thinking

The breakthrough is not any single feature. It is the system, the flywheel.

More compelling worlds → more participation → richer intelligence → more creators and partners → more experiences → more monetisation → more investment → deeper participation.

Skill 5: Future-Back Transformation

Work backwards from a future where Netflix is the leading global network for entertainment worlds:

  • 2026-27: Expand the core - make today's Netflix stronger with AI.
  • 2028-29: Build new growth engines - scale games, live, persistent worlds and creator ecosystems.
  • 2030-32: Become an AI-native entertainment network - connect stories, games, creators, communities, commerce and adaptive experiences.

The reinvention

The reinvention is the shift from:

a place where we watch entertainment

to

a network where entertainment worlds are continuously created, experienced, expanded and monetised.

That is the difference between AI-Plus Netflix and AI-Native Netflix.
